One of the Angels

An old, bent over woman with long white hair

and black clothes just walked

into the restaurant in which

we sit

asking the waiter if a woman

came in with children in tow.

The waiter replied, “No–

I haven’t seen anyone…”

And in that very instant,

we thought she was a fantastic ghost!

A shimmering illusion

A nightmarish fantasy

A morbid and slightly provocative secret–

Whoosh!

She vanished

as quickly as she came in

A relic of a century passed

the visage of a phantom neighborhood

to be relished only

by the book readers

and

silent–

(albeit arbitrary)

truth

seekers.
